WASL Results
Othello High School students are working very hard in a variety of areas. Students, parents and staff members should be very pleased with the WASL results produced in the testing window last spring. Othello High School met all of the proficiency goals for AYP (Annual Yearly Progress) in reading and math. Writing scores at Othello High School were the highest of any high school in the Columbia Basin, including schools in the Tri-Cities area. The math results from the WASL testing showed a score of 35.6 %, which is an increase of 6.4% over the previous year. The reading score was 87.1%, which is an increase of 6.5%, and the writing score was the highest at 91.4%, which showed an increase of 12.7% over the previous year.
Good Leadership Produces Positive Reactions
Leadership students at OHS are also working to be a positive influence with their peers. After a positive and school spirit filled opening assembly, the leadership class has designated one bulletin board as a "Random Act of Kindness" challenge. Each week, a new challenge to be completed daily has been posted such as, "Pick up five pieces of trash," "Hold a door open," and "Compliment three people." The OHS Staff has noticed an increase in respect to others and courteous behavior by students.
