School Closure because of Inclement Weather

During the winter months the Othello School District may close for a variety of reasons such as snow, fog, freezing rain, below zero temperatures, wind chills or when the it is too dangerous to put buses on the road. We suggest that you listen to local radio stations for school closure information or check with our site often so we can inform you as quickly as possible about any change in normal operating schedules.  Should a closure be annouced the radio stations listed below will have the closure information by 5:45 a.m.

Delayed School Start (Up to two hour late start)

Depending on the weather forecast and satisfactory road conditions the Othello School District my opt for up to a two our delayed start. The purpose of a delayed opening is to defer the decision to open or close to a later time when we may have additional information regarding weather and driving conditions.

A delayed opening means: plan on going to school UNLESS you hear differently.

  • If there is a one-hour delay, transportation to school will be delayed at least one hour, so you should expect buses to pick up students one hour later than their normal pick- up time. Students will return home at their regularly scheduled time.

  • If there is a two-hour delay, transportation to school will be delayed two hours, so you should expect buses to pick up students two hour later than their normal pick- up time. Students will return home at their regularly scheduled time.

  • When school is closed, all after-school activities and athletic practices are cancelled except when permission is granted by the superintendent to hold such events.
     

Morning kindergarten and breakfast programs will be canceled.  If conditions do not improve, running late may be changed to closure. Local radio stations will be informed by 8:00 a.m.

Emegency Early School Closures

Due to unforseen emergencies or inclement weather the Othello School District may opt to close school early.  The Othello School District will make ever effort to keep the district open however if we need to close we will start a notification procedure immediately. This will include announcing the closure on local radio stations and having school personnel try to notify parents by phone.

During inclement Weather Days Parents Should:

1. Listen to a local radio station
2. Check our website for delays or closures
3. Provide a way for children to enter home if buses run late or school closes early.
